Rick’s No Yes man

One word is a big problem for rock megastar Rick Wakeman – he’s just a guy who can’t say Yes!

The initiated will know that Rick was one of the brains behind legendary Seventies band Yes.

The problem now is that Rick and his ex-Yes buddies, Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford and Steve Howe, have got together as a band again. But they can’t call themselves Yes.

Other ex-members of the band own the rights to the name.

“So,” says Risk, “we’ll be billed as Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe. But in America, – where there is already a million dollars in advance orders – we’ll still be known as the classic Yes band of the Seventies.”

The rocketing demand for the new group means there isn’t enough time for Rick to fit all the gigs for a British tour this year – Rick’s twentieth in show business.

But there’s one date he has managed – as a Reluctant Cook for BBC-2’s series. Rick’s not sure why he was chosen – except that he lives on the Isle of Man like the presenter of the show, Kevin Woodford.

And to make it worse, Rick was asked to cook on a barbecue.

He says, “My barbecue cooking has always been a disaster… but this one actually seemed to work.”

Rick is married to the former topless model Nina Carter. So who does the cooking at home?

“We both do,” says Rick. “Nina is a super cook. But my speciality is my shepherd’s pie – I sling in everything I can lay my hands on.

“It’s more like an office block than a shepherd’s pie!”
