YES -- November 9, 2001- Berlin

Translated by Kerstin

It was a night that you won't forget for the rest of your life, and probably no coincidence that YES performed at Berlin exactly on November 9th. On November 9th, 1989 the Berlin wall was opened, and on the very same day, 12 years later, for many fans the heaven over Berlin was opened.

In order to make reference to this connection, the German YES fans made a blue, illuminated giant balloon with a writing on it. They intended to bring the balloon into the concert hall and let it rise there, but regrettably, the security staff would not allow the balloon inside the auditorium.

Nevertheless, the concert was overwhelming. I was lucky and had a seat in the first row center. It was a magnificent performance, and very person. As usually, it took quite a while for the audience to loosen up. By the end of the show, however, everyone was excited, and the excitement of the audience made the musicians beam with joy. A detail which only people in the front row were able to see: At the end of the show Alan White was on the verge of tears for a very brief moment when looking at the applauding audience. It was a great joy for all people at this event to meet so many kindred spirits.
