The Young Person's Guide to YES

By Alex van Starex

As I breathlessly announced in the Tour News section a few weeks back, the classic lineup of Yes -- singer Jon Anderson, bass player Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, keyboards player Rick Wakeman and drummer Alan White -- will be performing in Australia for the first time in 30 years, playing the Sydney Entertainment Centre Saturday March 1. No self-respecting musician can afford to miss this one. I saw them at the Apollo Stadium in Adelaide in 1973 and was absolutely blown away. If you ever doubted these guys were a rock band, seeing them live will change your life. Anyway, there will be quite a few readers considerably younger than I and therefore unaware of the music and history of Yes, and as luck would have it, there are several ways to redress this oversight. There's the band's biography, "Close to the Edge the Story of YES" by Chris Welch and published by Omnibus Press, and there is the band's official website, YesWorld, http://yesworld.com
