Children's charity in memory of Iraq hero (Excerpts)

By Deborah James

A Naitonal children's charity is to be set up in memory of Iraq war hero Major Matthew Titchener.

The Major Matthew Titchener Children' s Trust is to be launched at a
charity concert to honour the Southport-born soldier at London's Royal Opera House.

Set up by Maj Titchener's mother, Val, and celebrity entertainer Dennis
Wise, the charity will provide grants and set up trust funds for the
children of British servicemen and women killed in conflict.

Royal Military Police officer Major Titchener, originally from Freckleton
Road, Southport, was one of three soldiers killed on August 23 when their unmarked jeep was ambushed during an operation in Basra.

He left behind a two-year-old son Matheson, and widow Raqual, 28, who is pregnant with their second child.

They are expected to join Maj Titchener's parents Val and Fred, and Simon
Weston who has agreed to become a patron of the charity, at the event on January 23.

The Midnight Youth Theatre of Western Australia, from Perth, will perform
their version of William Makepeace Thackeray's comic novella The Rose and the Ring.

Other patrons include comedian Roger de Courcey, former Yes keyboard player
Rick Wakeman, and BBC's snooker commentator and Big Break game show host, John Virgo. ........

Anyone who wishes to make a donation to the charity should call Dennis Wise on 01737 361077.
