YES to the Liverpool Pops!

The Pops will return to Liverpool this July, with reformed super-group YES as the first act to confirm their appearance, at the Kings Dock on July 5th.

Tickets will be on sale from Saturday January 18th.

Featuring the band's classic line up of keyboard player Rick Wakeman, vocalist Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, and drummer Alan White, back together again, this is the band's only Northern show of the summer.

In a change for 2003, the Summer Pops have been re-christened The Liverpool Pops, to recognise the city's bid for Capital of Culture. With the decision on Capital of Culture due to be heard in May, it is hoped The Liverpool Pops will become the first major event to be held in the City following Liverpool's victory.

The Liverpool Pops will once again be held in the 4,500 capacity all-seated Big Top Arena, constructed on the Kings Dock for the month of July. No other acts have been confirmed at the moment.

Last year's Pops attracted over 70,000 people to the Kings Dock and featured sold out shows by Elton John, Paul Simon, Bryan Adams, Meat Loaf, Van Morrison, Bryan Ferry and many others and it is likely over 20 big name acts will feature once again in 2003.

Pops promoter Chas Cole said: "It's fantastic news that we're coming back for another year. The Liverpool Pops are now becoming a major international event on the musical calendar and have really put Liverpool back on the map as a major destination for the big names to play. They are happy to come to Liverpool following the success of the previous two years, which says so much about what this city has achieved."
