Rock Pioneers Yes Celebrate 35th Anniversary

LOS ANGELES, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The pioneering rock supergroup Yes -- currently celebrating their 35th anniversary -- is en route with a coast-to-coast North American spring 2004 itinerary that launched April 15 and runs through mid-May. The historic arena tour -- in the grand scale of past Yes excursions -- presents the band's formidable "classic" line-up of 1969 co-founders Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, along with Rick Wakeman, Steve Howe, and Alan White, all three of whom started with Yes in the very early '70s.

The three-hour 35th anniversary shows bring to life essential Yes songs from throughout the visionary prog-rock icons' extraordinary career, as well as the brand new composition, "Show Me." The tour's boldly lit and dramatic stage design, taking advantage of the expansive arena-size format, was conceived by famed artist and longtime Yes visual collaborator Roger Dean, who created the band's logo and many of their classic album covers. The multi-media concert experience promises to be a spectacle to behold for fans -- in Jon Anderson's words, "There's a time, and the time is now. There's a band, and the band is YES. Are you ready?"

Also saluting Yes' milestone three-and-a-half decades in music is Rhino Records' just-released 3-CD retrospective The Ultimate Yes: 35th Anniversary Collection. Spanning 1961 to the present, the collectible 31-track set features a full disc of previously unreleased material, including acoustic re-inventions of the Yes classics "South Side Of  The Sky" and "Roundabout," originally from their 1972 album masterpiece Fragile. The compilation joins Rhino's restoration of the Yes catalogue featuring remastered and expanded editions of their albums, as well as the 2002 5-CD box In A Word: Yes (1969-). Newly available as well is Classic Pictures' DVD Yesspeak, an in-depth, 169-minute Roger Daltrey-narrated documentary filmed during Yes' 35th anniversary European tour.

Yes was born at the close of the '60s when Anderson and Squire began collaborating after meeting at a London club. Beginning with their 1969 self-titled debut LP, Yes launched a steady stream of artistically adventurous albums, and time has proven them to be the most successful progressive rock band ever, defining the genre in its formative days, and remaining its ultimate heroes. Yes' experimental spirit and atmospheric sound, powered by instrumental virtuosity and bravura vocals, has influenced countless artists. Taste-maker Q magazine recently called them "The long haired dads of Radiohead," and with their remarkable staying power, Yes will no doubt make their mark on future generations as well.
