Yes: Yesspeak (DVD)

By Pete Pardo

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Yes comes this informative DVD chock full of interviews and music recorded during the recent European tour. In depth interviews with each band member give tons of insight into the past, present and future of this legendary band, and there is plenty of live footage interspersed throught, however it is important to note that this is NOT a live concert DVD. The primary objective here is the intimate nature of the interviews with the band members, with the live footage popping up fairly frequently but not complete songs.

Watching Rick Wakeman tell his hilarious "war stories" and acting goofy in the backstage area and on the tour bus is a real treat. The guy has a great sense of humor, all the more evident after getting through Jon Anderson's "spritual/heady" segment and Steve Howe's disjointed, "I'm the picky professional musician" monologue. The live shots all show that the band seems to be having fun, and their playing is tight as always. While it would have been nice to have the full video of the concert included, Disk 2 includes Dolby 5.1 audio of the entire live set, accompanied by some still shots.

While not a must have for the casual fan, every hardcore Yes fan will want this DVD.
