Stop The Madness! Vote For Your Favorite Guitarists

The war cries are resounding all over the world’s communities of real guitar players. Rolling Stone’s ill-conceived September 18, 2003 issue lauding the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” smacked us right in our preamp tubes with glaring omissions (no Chet Atkins? No Django? No Charlie Christian?), dunderheaded “ratings,” and obvious pop-culture concessions. So Guitar Player is calling upon all true believers to right this particular wrong by participating in a reader’s poll that explicitly spotlights the opinions of actual players who love and respect the history of the guitar.

All you have to do is this:

• First, write down your ten favorite guitarists of all time. We’ll compile the master list from these entries.

• Then, choose one player to compete for “Best Young Gun”—a fresh, new talent that you dig who’s between the ages of 13 years old and 25. (This player can also be on your top ten list.)

• Now, choose one player to compete for “Most Ferocious Female Guitarist”—a woman whose technique, style, and riffs totally blow your mind. (She can be on your top ten list, as well.)

• Choose one player to compete for “Living Legend”—an old-school guitar god who is still breathing and (hopefully) performing. (Yeah, this player can also be on your top ten list.)

• Choose one player to compete for “Icon”—a transcendent player who has passed away, but whose recordings still thrill and inspire you. (Once again, this cat can be on your top ten list.)

• Put your picks into an e-mail message and send the votes to guitplyr@musicplayer.com. Please write “Reader’s Poll” in your subject line. You can also send us a postcard with your picks. Send the card to: Guitar Player Reader’s Poll, 2800 Campus Drive, San Mateo, CA 94403.

Guitar Player will publish the results of your well-considered voting in our March 2004 issue. Please join the party and vote! We need to get the views of real players into the public consciousness. This is a holy crusade, brothers and sisters, so get your entries in today!
