YES - Wembley Arena Weds. 16th June

By Phil Storey

Prog rock legends YES are back in town as part of their 35th Anniversary World tour, and as usual they have packed the place. Mind you, tickets went on sale some 11 months ago and tonight, there are still some cheap seats available.

Anyway, on with the show. YES glide their way through their set to an eager audience. Even the fifty-somethings in the front row can be seen jumping up and down on their feet between songs tonight. Even if every word that comes out of Jon Andersons mouth is utter rubbish, it doesn't seem to matter. 'Going for the one' sounds amazing tonight and this sets the tone for the night ahead. Chris Squire was doing his usual stomping around the stage thing, and even if they all look a bit full of themselves, then why not. It's been 35 successful years after all. 'Yours is no disgrace' closes the first half of tonight's show and the fans are absolutely loving it.

After the interval, the crowd is treated to a few acoustic songs in support of their new dvd 'Yes Acoustic' showing us a different side of YES as Alan White gently taps away with brushes on a jazz kit and Rick Wakeman on a grand piano. Tonight's set is closed with the usual rendition of 'Starship Trooper' and the crowd is on its feet again and after over 2 hours of YES. The show is over but they do return to the stage for something that looks like an attempt at a bow.

Over all, a great set by a great band celebrating 35 years of making music together. YES seem to have a real die-hard following and tonight they gave the fans their money's worth. But you do have to wonder if Jon Anderson has completely lost it. 8/10
