GMO's Digital Audio Postcard Rockets New YES Release To Top Debut Slot on Internet Album Charts
Successful Online Marketing Campaign Delivers 13% of Total Pre-Sells
LOS ANGELES, CA. - October 6, 1999 - Legendary classic rock group YES used the latest in e-commerce technology, the Digital Audio Postcard
(DAP) from software innovator GMO, to enter this week's Billboard's Top Internet Album Sales chart as the best-selling new release. The pre-release
Internet campaign, which featured a DAP customized for the new album, "The Ladder," delivered approximately 2,000 pre-orders, or 13 percent of total sales.
The DAP is a self-playing interactive device with exceptional audio quality, graphics and hyperlinks. The YES DAP featured a preview of
"Lightning Strikes," the bandıs first single from the new album, along with four-color graphics and lyrics. A hyperlink to the Tower Records
Online website allowed fans to click through to pre-order the album, receive giveaways, and purchase tickets for their upcoming tour (click here
to download the YES DAP Windows only).
During the first 30 days of distribution, the YES DAP maintained a 27% click through rate. In comparison, Web banner advertising averages a
click-through rate between 1.5% - 3%.
"The YES pre-order promotion was incredibly successful for TowerRecords.com. In fact, it's the most successful promotion we've
offered this year!," said Kari Necker, Tower Records. "The Digital Audio Postcard was key in delivering the marketing message to fans
directly in a unique and exciting package that makes this a must for online commerce."
