Yes To Roll The Clock Back On Amphitheater Tour
By Rob Evans
Prog rockers to mine catalog for neglected gems; Kansas will support.
Progressive rockers Yes plan to roll out some of the more epic compositions from
the band's 30-plus-year history during its upcoming summer amphitheater tour.
Kansas will share the bill for the tour, which gets underway on June 20.
"This has been a long time coming," Yes' lead singer Jon Anderson said
in a statement. "Our audience has been asking for this for years. We want
this show to honor their passion and loyalty."
The Yes song catalog features numerous tracks that clock in at well over 15
minutes -- for instance, the 1974 double-LP release "Tales From Topographic
Oceans" contains only four songs -- and the band hasn't played many of the
tracks live in years.
The band is asking for input from fans as it works out the tour's set list. Fans
can vote for two favorite songs in a poll that is being conducted on the band's
official website through April 26.
Supporting act Kansas has remained together in various incarnations for 26
years, but it has been 17 years since the band's original line-up recorded an
album. The original group re-formed last year, however, and is tentatively
scheduled to release a new album titled "Somewhere to Elsewhere"
(Magna Carta) in July.
For the amphitheater tour, Kansas' line-up will include Steve Walsh (vocals),
Robby Steinhardt (violin), Rich Williams (guitars), Phil Ehart (drums), and
Billy Greer, who has played bass in the band for the past 15 years. Original
Kansas members Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope won't be along for the tour.
Tickets for most shows go on sale starting in early May, according to a press
release issued by the band's representatives, but on-sales begin Saturday (4/22)
for the tour's June 30 stop in St. Louis.
