For the right price, 'Producers' could land in Las Vegas

.......There's bad news and good news for classic rock fans: Guitar virtuoso Steve Howe won't be with Asia at Sunset Station June 30. In fact, keyboardist Geoff Downes is the only original member of the '80s "supergroup" made up of '70s progressive rock alumni. 

The good news is that Howe will be at the hotel July 24 with his other group, Yes, which will be backed by a 60-piece orchestra for the "Yessymphonic" tour. 

The expense of these rock-orchestra collaborations, and their spotty track record, means they often skip Las Vegas. The Moody Blues became PBS darlings with a similar venture, but opted for more frequent band-only appearances at Caesars Palace. A symphonic heavy metal date with the Scorpions was recently canceled at the Aladdin. 

Judy Alberti, vice president of entertainment for Station Casinos, says she's also been offered the chance to play the group Kansas with an orchestra. "I feel good about doing it with Yes," she says. "It's a more natural fit" for the group's symphonic style. The 80-foot width of the hotel's outdoor stage gave Station Casinos a leg up in negotiations, she adds. .....
