The YesSymphonic Tour Kicks Off at Summer Pops 2001
San Diego Symphony to Perform World-Premiere of Tour
The legendary rock band Yes, with their long string of hits such as Owner of a Lonely Heart, Roundabout and I’ve Seen All the Good People, will join
San Diego Symphony in the world premiere of The YesSymphonic Tour. The classic lineup featuring Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan
White will perform over 30 North American dates on this tour.
"We’ve always dreamed of performing with an orchestra in a tour setting. Our upcoming album was written with an orchestra so we wanted the tour to
reflect that," say Anderson.
Yes, formed in 1967 has been on the leading edge of progressive rock music for over three decades. To date, Yes has sold over 28 million albums
worldwide, including the unforgettable Fragile and Close to the Edge. British super group Yes has always been famous for it unparalleled live
shows. Yes pioneered the use of lasers, elaborate fantasy art inspired sets and in-the-round revolving stages.
Yes’ best known lineup, featuring vocalist Jon Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe, bassist/co-founder Chris Squire, and longtime drummer and
percussionist Alan White, set to work on a new studio album earlier this year. The idea was to replace the traditional keyboard role with a full
orchestra. The band collaborated with Emmy award-winning television and motion picture composer Larry Groupé. With Groupé arranging and composing,
Yes will tour the United States this summer performing their best-loved classic hits along with selections from their new album.
Larry Groupé is one today’s most sought after film composers. Of note are his contributions to the films The Usual Suspects and I Woke Up Early the
Day I Died, a silent film based Ed Woods’ last script. He recently wrote the score for Jonas Salk: Personally Speaking, a production of KPBS-TV and
has scored a variety of features, both narrative and documentary.
A graduate of the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific, Groupé began his senior year as the recipient of the ASCAP award for
student composers. He went on to earn his Masters of Music in Composition from the University of California, San Diego. His composing, orchestrating
and conducting skills took him to the world of film scoring where he won the New York Film Award for Best Score.
Groupé has composed, conducted and produced over eighty CD recordings. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. on Navy Pier, 960 N. Harbor Drive. Gates open
at 6 p.m. Parking is located on Broadway near Harbor Drive at the All Right parking lot, on the B-Street Pier/Cruise Ship Terminal located on Harbor
Drive near B Street, and at Ace Parking located on Broadway near
Pacific. Traffic Directors and signage will point customers to the closest lot with available spaces. Valet parking will also be available to patrons
near the entry of Navy Pier on North Harbor Drive.
