Yes - Magnification

The 'classic' 70's line-up regroups with full orchestra but without Rick Wakeman.

By Toby Manning

Considering that prog was routinely described as 'orchestral', it's odd that Yes have taken 31 years to repeat their sole orchestral experiment (a one-of 1970's concert).

Particularly so, given that reforming without keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman spares them both his disrespectful tendency to eat curry onstage in the boring bits and later, his rank-breaking mockery.  But the addition of symphonic players to this new studio album hasn't changed Yes's sound one iota.

Jon Anderson's voice is as choirboy pure and soaring as ever; guitarist Steve Howe's hands still cut corners programmeers still quite haven't caught up with.

The only difference is that the tricksiness is somewhat trimmed, and so, in an age of Muse, they sound muted rather than dated.
