Yes: Instead of keyboard player we have an orchestra

Translation by Dr. Péter Szabó

Yesterday's Yes concert was almost cancelled due to a stomach problem of singer Jon Anderson. Questions of LN were answered by Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White

LN: Thirty-one years have passed since you first worked with an orchestra in a concert. It is a quite
long time….

YES: We had plenty of work, dealt with other things. However our fans were always asking when we would a tour with a symphonic orchestra. And the time is now. We decided to create a new album with a symphonic orchestra.

LN: Your former albums could be characterized by keyboard sound. This is in the background now.

YES: However some keyboard sound can be found, but very rarely. Everything came to the light from our original idea: to play music with a symphonic orchestra. We tried to implement work of Larry, who wrote the arrangements for symphony. These pieces could have been played on piano in the past.  When we were making the music we thought about it, and in case of keyboard sessions, we let Larry put the part into the song.

LN: In one of the songs, we hear the lyric: "Seeing life from the other side". What does it mean?

YES: We can see life from two different angles, from here or from there. I am on one side and you might be on the other.

LN: And "what is it like seeing life from *your* side"?

YES: I do not know, try to imagine.

LN: You have been working for more than 30 years. Have ever you been influenced by any pressure coming from the record companies and the management?

YES: Fortunately not, they gave us freedom, we practically did what we wanted to do. We released one album a year, we were interested in it. We have never had problems with selling, that is why we have not been influenced. It was clear for us that we want to work. We are quite satisfied now
