YES - Going For The One: 1977
By Göran Johnsson
I was only four years old when it happened but I guess that if I had been a
Yes fan in the year of 1977 I've would probably had gone mad of happiness.
Rick Wakeman rejoins Yes and together they make one of the strongest
records of the 70's. "Going for the one" really has it all. Singer Jon
Anderson contributes with the rocky title track and "Wonderous stories"
which maybe is the most beautiful Yes song ever. Bass player Chris Squire's
"Parallels" suited fine to be the opener of the tour that followed and the
wonderful epic "Awaken" that ends the record has been one of the most
requested live songs for the last 25 years. The production is the strongest
of all their albums in the 70's and with Wakeman back on the keyboards the
band feels hungry again. Sometimes I think this album is somewhat
overlooked and other classic albums like "Fragile" and "Close to the edge"
gets more attention than this one. Sure the earlier albums are really great
but if I had to choose…I think I would stick to 1977.
