Asia: Geoff Downes
Asia was launched by four prog-rock stalwarts: Singer-bassist John Wetton from King Crimson, Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Uriah Heep, and U.K.; guitarist
Steve Howe and keyboardist Geoff Downes from Yes, and drummer Carl Palmer via Emerson, Lake and Palmer. In 1982, their self-titled debut went to #1.
Quadruple platinum, Asia yielded the pop hits Heat Of The Moment and Only Time Will Tell. Both tracks were also Top 10 Album Rock, as was Sole
Survivor. Wildest Dreams and Here Comes The Feeling went Top 40 Album Rock. The first two-CD retrospective of Asia, Anthologia: The 20th
Anniversary/Geffen Years Collection (1982-1990) (Geffen/UME), released June 18, 2002, features 36 digitally remastered selections, including every
track from the band's first four and best-known albums -- Asia, Alpha, Astra and Then &
Now -- plus b-sides. Talk to Asia's Geoff Downes about the group
and the CD.
