YES: Review of Relayer
This album contains a candidate for my favorite song of all time: "The
Gates Of Delirium". Truly a masterpiece of progressive music that still
offers up newly discovered nuances of instrumentation to this day. If
you've ever been interested in exploring musical extravagancies, this album
will show you what the human mind can do when it's directly connected to
instruments. The band, Yes, is home to whom I consider to be the best bass
player on the face of the earth: Chris Squire. With his famous Rickenbacker
bass and the unique tone he gets from it, Squire is truly the backbone of
the group. Whether holding strange super heavy syncopated root rhythms or
creating guitar like bass leads that seem to come from another dimension,
Squire is THE MAN! Steve Howe's guitar playing defies description...just
listen. Patrick Moraz takes over for the legendary Rick Wakeman and does an
incredible job by adding a fusion influence. Check out the section that
comes about 13 minutes in that creates a mind blowing soundscape! Darken
the room, put on the headphones and absorb.
