And Rock will carry on in Monterrey!

By Roel Jiménez

Good music and great vibes from the world’s greatest super groups will carry on in the City after Kiss’ and The Cure’s shows, now with Yes and Dream Theater, who will offer more than five hours of Progressive Rock this September the 22nd.

Both band’s followers will have to cash in their savings in order to get the best seats in the Monterrey Arena, since this Wednesday the box office will open officially, as announced by Ricardo Rodríguez, owner of “Promotora Artística”, the production company in charge of the show.

“I think this will be a great event for both band’s fans, especially for Yes fans, because probably this will be the band’s last tour in the country”, said the entrepreneur.

“At least I don’t think we’ll ever see them together again, since it’s very important to point out that for the Monterrey show the band will be formed by the classic lineup, that is, those musicians who made Yes a great band. Fans will surely truly enjoy this.”

For the City’s show, as when they played in Mexico two years earlier, the Yes lineup will include Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass guitar), Steve Howe (guitars), Alan White (drums) and Rick Wakeman (keyboards), the last being considered as one of the most important musicians worldwide.

“I think that the most important of the five of them is Wakeman. In fact, the show was scheduled for a Thursday, but it had to be moved up to Wednesday because he has a solo show in London by that time,” added Rodriguez.

Wakeman’s talent will add an extra flavor to the band’s sound, since on their last performance in the City in 1998, the keyboard player didn’t play with them.

Yes, writers of hugely successful hits such as “It Can Happen”, “Roundabout” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart”, are currently celebrating their 35th anniversary with this tour that brings them down to the City, but which begun on April the 15th in the US, also visiting a great number of European and Latin-American countries.

Opening for Yes, Dream Theater will electrify the audiences with a review of their musical career, which begun in 1989 with the album “When Dream and Day Unite” and still carries on to this day, with their recently released album in 2003 called “Train of Thought”.

Its members are James LaBrie (vocals), John Myung (bass guitar), John Petrucci (guitars), Mike Portnoy (drums) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards), and together they come back to the City after almost two years of absence.

The show will unite two generations of Progressive Rock followers, both of which will surely enjoy both band’s musical energy.

Yes and Dream Theater not only share musical paths, but also some of their members keep ongoing solo projects and participations in other musician’s recordings.

The tickets will range from 1500 pesos, seats located in front of the stage, to 200 pesos upstairs in the “cielo” area.

Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, available at the Arena’s box office or through the Internet at SuperBoletos.com.

Even though Yes played in Monterrey in 1998, this time the band will include all it’s original members, including Rick Wakeman.

Dream Theater will play a “musical tour” of their musical career.
