While prog produced its share of pretentious piffle, it wasn't all bad, as this five-CD retrospective proves. The usual suspects (Yes, ELP, Genesis)
are here, but it's obscure acts like Atomic Rooster and Savage Rose that provide the most ear-catching moments, melding rock, classical, folk, and
jazz in jarring, uncategorizable symphonies of blood and thunder. Punk junkies, steer clear. B- Grade: B-
